Steven Soderbergh Making 3-D Cleopatra

Variety says that Steven Soderbergh is developing a 3-D live-action rock ‘n’ roll musical about Cleopatra.

He is courting Catherine Zeta-Jones to play the Egyptian queen and Hugh Jackman to play her lover, Marc Antony.

The $30 million Cleo will be shopped for financing and distribution within the next two weeks. Greg Jacobs is producing with Casey Silver.

The music has been written by the indie rock band Guided by Voices, and the script is by James Greer, a former bass player for the band and an author.

Racing the Monsoon, Douglas on a locale-hunt in India

Michael Douglas and wife Catherine Zeta-Jones are presently in India to finalise locations for the upcoming movie ‘Racing the Monsoon’. The film will be shot in Jaisalmer and some other parts of Rajasthan apart from being shot in Mumbai and Kolkata..

THE 1984 action adventure ’Romancing the Stone’ is soon going to have a sequel – ’Racing the Monsoon’. The interesting part about the movie-to-be is that it will be shot in India. The movie’s producer is Michael Douglas, who presently is in India with his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones to finalise the locations.

Douglas, who is also going to act in the movie, reportedly is intrigued by the ’Indian way of life’. “India is making a large impact in the US, be it culture, design, fashion or films, which are splashed everywhere in the world. I have been closely following and studying Indian culture and I am fascinated by it,” said the Basic Instinct star.

The actor’s very pretty wife Zeta-Jones has shown equal enthusiasm about coming to India. The actress, who won an Oscar for her performance in the musical ’Chicago’ had said, “I am looking forward to going to India. Michael and I are developing a script that will be set in India. We will take our kids and all of us will go, set up a camp in India and shoot a film.”

The couple arrived in Mumbai on June 27 and have been in constant media glare ever since. Even though they mean business, the family seems to be having a jolly good time here. Douglas told reporters, ” I must confess that I love the food here. The mix of spices is brilliant and I am looking forward to exploring India further.”

It is rumoured that Hollywood favourite Aishwarya Rai or ’Ashra’ as Douglas pronounces it, will also be acting in the film. Douglas has diplomatically opted not to comment on the same. Although, the presence of Zeta-Jones, Hollywood stud Matt Damon and Douglas himself, in the film is certain.

The film will be shot in Jaisalmer and some other parts of Rajasthan apart from being shot in Mumbai and Kolkata. Mumbai-based Percept Picture Company will be co-producing the movie, which revolves around a diamond robbery on an Indian train.
